A note from Festival Partner / Creative & Content Head - Nikhil Chinapa:

The dream started many years ago and like good wine…the idea did take some time to mature.
 
It happened after Pearl and I went for a cataclysmic…mind altering party at Ibiza. After that night…the only though that kept going through our minds was how we could bring this back, to share with our friends at home. 
 
Just for a lark (and the joy of playing with your toes in the sand) we started having a night every year around New Years at a friends shack called Zanzibar in Goa. Six years back was our first night…and we played to approximately fifteen people…mostly being our friends and associates. Today…this same night has grown by leaps…bounds and sounds into becoming one of the most sought after party places…with a crowd of eighteen thousand people passing thru Zanzibar over 8 days.

The most beautiful aspect of this party, is that its free… absolutely free, on a public beach – and it'll always be that way.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Around the same time, Smirnoff had begun to bring renowned artists like   Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, Lee Burridge, Smokin' Jo, Filetrheadz and John Digweed to India…and the masses were sitting up and taking notice. A following had begun…

Seeing a glimmer of the design that we had, and over sheer frustration at the lack of quality music in clubs…Pearl, Hermit and I started a night at a club in Mumbai called Rock Bottom. We called it Submerge.

It was open to all that were weary of mainstream bollywood music and were ready to open their minds to experimental new sounds. It sought to create a platform for DJs to play what they wanted, and for followers of EDM to gather around the music that meant so much to so many of us.  

6 years down the line, Submerge has residencies in multiple cities in India and does/supports over 10 events a month!

Then like a storm that collects all the elements before creating an incredible experience (play dramatic fanfare)…PDM Entertainment decided to put together the first Dance Music Festival in India.
 
They got in touch with me…because of the recognition that Submerge had acquired (which now had a fan base of over 8,000…and a heavy duty online community branching all through out India.)…and a musical bond was formed. I joint as a Partner and Consultant for creative & content in this futuristic venture of designing Asia's premier Dance festival…and Sunburn was born.
